Extra Credit - Science Of Cycling Symposium

Feb. 13, Friday -- Sports and fitness enthusiasts are welcome to attend this public symposium, beginning 7:30 p.m. at the Natsoulas Gallery on 521 First St. in downtown Davis. Five speakers from UC Davis will offer insights into the science of cycling.

The speakers include: exercise physiologist John Hansen, UC Davis Sports Performance Program, on "Threshold Training and Time Trialing"; Matthew Wood, assistant professor of environmental toxicology, on "Energy Metabolism, Biomedicine and Endurance Sport"; Dylan Malagrino, professor of law, on "The Drug Testing of Athletes and Still-Open Legal Questions"; graduate student Paul Mach on "The Road to Going Pro: A Technical, First-Hand Account"; and Judd Van Sickle, biomedical engineer, Sports Performance Program, on "Exploring the Energetic Demands of the Tour of California." The event is hosted by UC Davis, the city of Davis and the 2009 Amgen Tour of California.
