This year's the Rube Goldberg Machines will all accomplish one task - Create/Produce a smiley face in an 8.5"x11" area. This is so that we can compete at UCD Picnic Day in the Rube Goldberg competition put on by the Engineering Fraternity - Theta Tau. For the official UCD rules go HERE.
The winning 1-3 teams from the Davis High competition will go one to compete at Picnic Day against UCD Engineering for a $100 prize. So make your Rube Goldbergs Awesome!!
In order to compete in the UCD competition your machine must meet the following guidelines (in addition to meeting the requirements listed in the Rube Goldberg Overview document attached below):
The machine must complete the task as described by the Chairman.
• The machine must be no larger than 6 ft. x 6 ft. x 5 ft.
• The machine must have a minimum of twenty (20) steps.
• There is no maximum number of steps.
• No live animals may be used in the machine.
• The machine must not imply profane, indecent or lewd expressions.
• Any loose or flying objects must remain within the set boundaries of the machine. This includes,
but is not limited to, drops of water, slivers of balloon, and other “small” objects. Steam and other

• No flames may be used on the machine.
• No hazardous materials or explosives can be used on the machine.
• The machine must be safe to the satisfaction of the RG officials. The contest Chairman must
